Berwick St John Parish Council represents the civil parish of Berwick St John. There are 7 seats, with elections held every four years; the most recent election was in May 2017.
The Parish Council meets every other month in the village hall with additional meetings called if required. All meetings are advertised on the parish notice board situated by The Cross. In addition the agenda is available on the website. Members of the public may attend and there is a short time set aside at the start of the meeting for questions or statements from the public on matters relating to Berwick St John.
The Parish Council acts as a consultee on planning applications. Any application to be considered will be clearly stated on the agenda. Details of all the planning applications are available on the Wiltshire Council website (www.wiltshire.gov.uk). Any person wishing to make a response to a planning application should respond to Wiltshire Council Planning but is welcome to copy the Parish Council into their response. Additional meetings may be called to consider a planning application and these will be clearly advertised.
Berwick St John Parish Council sets the budget for parish council expenditure at its November meeting and requests this (the precept) from Wiltshire Council. Wiltshire Council collect this from the parish as part of the Council Tax.
